The Fat Giraffe
About This Spot
Step inside The Fat Giraffe and you’re immediately embraced by a warm, inviting buzz that feels both familiar and refreshingly genuine. Nestled on Church Street in Padiham, this cozy café and breakfast spot hums quietly with the rhythm of everyday moments—local chatter over coffee, the clink of cutlery on plates, and the occasional laughter that sparks around the room. It’s the kind of place where time slows just enough to savor something truly comforting, whether you’re here for a relaxed weekend brunch or a casual catch-up with friends.
The pace is easy-going, welcoming a crowd that blends longtime locals and newcomers alike. Staff members move gracefully between tables with a attentiveness that never feels rushed, adding to the sense that your visit matters not just as a stop, but as part of their shared community. There’s a genuine warmth in the air, a feeling that everyone is sharing a moment rather than just a meal.
Here, the food tells a story of simple pleasures done well. Think hearty breakfasts that anchor your day, rich coffee concoctions that invite slow sips, and lunchtime fare that strikes a gentle balance between familiar favourites and thoughtful twists. Whether it’s the satisfying comfort of a full English or the fresh brightness of a Mediterranean salad, each bite settles into the kind of contentment that comes from dishes made with care and an eye on the everyday joy of good company and good fuel.
The Fat Giraffe also has a knack for small touches that linger: an expertly crafted mocha to recharge a weary afternoon, or a carefully assembled afternoon tea that feels like a quiet celebration amidst a bustling day. The little moments—the smiles exchanged across the counter, the thoughtful way a special request is handled, the awareness of busy families or individuals seeking a calm refuge—make every visit feel personal and considered.
In a corner of Burnley where the pace of life can be brisk, this café offers a lovely, grounded pause. It’s not just about filling your plate or your cup, but about savoring the rhythm of genuine hospitality and easy warmth, a place where the simplest ingredients combine to make something quietly special.

We all enjoyed the hot roast beef sandwiches. There was plenty of roast beef with onions and gravy. The coffees were lovely too. A perfect brunch. It was great to see lots of locals in the cafe. If we are in the area we will definitely call in again. All the staff are very friendly.

Fabulous place with amazing staff, they had a kinder bueno hot chocolate on the menu that I had my eye on but the coffee addict in me needed a caffeine hit. The fabulous member of staff created the Kinder Bueno mocha - oh my days!! A new addiction has been created - thank you!

I brought my mum and son a couple of weeks ago for an after church treat and it was so lovely! The staff are a real credit, welcoming and attentive. It was a lot busier than I expected but you were clear with time expectations and made my little boys visit extra special with little touches. Will definitely be returning.

We visited on Sunday and had a lovely time. Amazing staff who never stopped the whole time we were there. Hubby commented on how good the coffee was and coming from him that’s high praise! Daughter was super impressed with her hot chocolate, nearly the size of her head! Food was delicious, service fabulous.. can’t wait to visit again.. thank you! xxxxx

Fab little cafe. I've been wanting to try their afternoon tea for ages and although I was late organising myself they squeezed us in anyway! The food was yum and my perfect choice for afternoon tea selection... And at a very reasonable price! All the staff were lovely, very attentive and polite. Will definitely be back!

We came to the Fat Giraffe to celebrate our friends special birthday. We all chose Afternnon Tea. Well what a delight! We all loved it. The food on each stand got demolished. The service was lovely and welcoming. The cafe was full which tells its own story! Thankyou for a lovely afternoon. We have said we will all come again soon.

Belated review but I have come a few times now and each time we have always enjoyed the food, especially the fry ups - they are always tasty and the quality has been the same each time. My most recent time was with my daughter and the staff were really helpful with getting us a table with space for the pram and for a highchair. Staff are always very friendly and attentive.
